More Info More About This Product

The Tiahunaco culture flourished in the Collao plateau, around the world's highest navigable lake, Titicaca. It is a very ancient culture, with remote origins dating back to 2000 BC. As a kingdom, it expanded in the first centuries of our era and its cultural influence reached as far as the Wari Empire which inherited from them their knowledge of mathematics, astronomy, and irrigation . Its artistic expressions are marked by a degree of rigidity that maintains, very likely, a relation to the theocratic structure of this civilization, a common characteristic of the later Inca civilization that also flourished in the Peruvian Andes. They also were distinguished weavers. In their fine textiles, they used the fiber of Andean camels (the alpaca and the vicuña) which had been domesticated from ancient times.
