More Info More About This Product

The Chancay culture developed on the central coast of Peru between the IX and XII centuries AD. The Chancay people are characterized by their continuity with the long established cosmopolitan traditions, typical of the ancient Peruvian coastal cultures. They were a people who maintained a great deal of commercial activity. Products brought from the Peruvian jungle, 500 km. from the coast: such as parrots, feathers, and exotic animals, are very frequently found in the Chancay tombs as well as semi-precious stones and shells coming from regions in modern day Chile and Ecuador. Chancay art is distinguished from other Peruvian cultures because of its great originality and spontaneity, richness and freedom of forms, and a naive naturalistic sense. The region where this culture developed is between the coastal beaches and the nearby Andes, this being the reason why it is still abundant in original and varied fauna and flora."
